Diamond Rising Star Adair is a Cherokee Princess who is in the process of opening a detective agency when she becomes, again, the target of a serial killer known as the Bridger Mountain Butcher because Gran Lac is at the edge of the Bridger Wilderness area. From the opening scene in the pre-dawn when the multiple personal killer is waiting for Diamond with his scalpel and wearing only a clear vinyl raincoat to its denouement over two months later the killer takes Sullivan, the leader of the federal task force, Diamond and other law enforcement agencies on murderous trips to Boston, Sausalito and the San Francisco Tenderloin District. Diamond is held hostage for over twenty-four hours by the killer and her rescuers will surprise the readers and remain unknown to Sullivan.
She turns down offers to join the CIA and the FBI.
Diamond and the Edinburgh Madam
The second book in the Diamond series opens in a Nebraska farmyard where two cousins of Diamond’s Cornell roommate and best friend are shot by an unknown assailant who roars away towards the Missouri/Iowa line on a motorcycle.
Wary of the motives for the attack and the impact they might have on her friend, Diamond is initially reluctant to take up the case. As the action moves from Nebraska and Wyoming to Denver, Tulsa and Tahlequah we learn that the sniper is a former policewoman from Scotland who was fired after the second questionable death of a suspect and became the owner of a BD/SM brothel in Edinburgh. A mysterious Modoc Man, wanted by several European security forces, joins her vendetta. In the middle of the action, Diamond is led to spend time with a distant relative and begin accepting that she is in a line of Cherokee medicine women. Before the action is over it has moved to Reno, Lake Tahoe, Idaho, San Juan Island and back to Wyoming and Diamond has to add members to her agency team. Nothing is predictable in this complex, mature detective story.
Diamond: Psychotic Psychiatrists and Mad Mayans
This novel is set in 2006 and in several locations in the U.S., Canada and Central America. Diamond and her sometimes lover Jim Sullivan are the target of a revengeful psychiatrist who felt belittled in a previous case [Diamond and the Bridger Mountain Butcher]. He and two forensic psychiatrist colleagues commit serial murders and leave forensic evidence implicating Diamond and Jim. After their reputations are ruined he plans to kidnap, torture and kill the pair. Don, the man who replaced Jim when he retired as head of the government's interagency serial killers unit, seems too eager to see the pair convicted.
When the novel opens Jim has been pursuing shamanic studies with a Mayan Revenant in South America. Diamond finds that there are two other Mayan Revenants and that all three are intent on infiltrating and taking over the United States as part of the 2012 prophecies. Diamond, her partners and Jim have to outwit the psychiatrists, several government agencies and the Mayan Revenants.
Sean, the Mysterious Modoc Man from Diamond and the Edinburgh Madam, plays a pivotal role as they battle to remain alive and out of prison
