Quebecois 01/06/2011
One of my hobbies is attempting to learn Quebecois. I fell in love with a woman from Quebec when we were in graduate school in California. Later, as I spent time in Quebec, I fell in love with that province. Before my first visit I bought and mastered the Berlitz French series. I got to Quebec and after a few encounters realized that they spoke Quebecois. Even worse, they spoke the Eastern Townships dialect. I gave up and let my wife translate for me. We have since gone our separate ways, but I still visit Quebec and have taken two immersion courses in Quebecois. I suspect I'll have to give up and live there for a few months to come close to fluency. But, I still love the culture, especially the music and the food. I am attaching one of the first videos I tried on my Nano. It was mainly an exercise in trying to keep my hand steady. The first few attempts had a lot of fingers and twists and turns. Add Comment |
